So I take it that you don't have to be going down the road to hear the wine... So if the bike is sitting there idling you can hear it as well as when revving it up? Can you post a video? If this is the case I would definitely be looking at the cam gears for being too tight or a possible cam bearing going bad... You do have a manual, right? All the specs are in there for the cam.
And yea might as well go with a better cam as mentioned earlier if you're going in there....

Your timing cover certainly looks original. That isn't an absolute guarantee that it's never been opened. Some guys do re-rivet them, but that is by far the exception.

He brings up a point. Don't go doing a lot of work to it because you heard, or read it on the net. most of it is BS. Learn about your EVO first.
CLEAN the tappet screen. If it has been sitting it may well need it.
