No, A wine in the motor is not normal.... If anything it would sound more like a an old Singer sewing machine. How many miles? At what rpm is it most prevalent? Do you hear it at idle or going down the road and in what gear and rpm? Oh yea one more thing, What side of the motor, left or right?

By the way you got a Very nice looking FXR. Nice find....

You are right about the cam bearing. Based on what you said it doesn't sound as though it has been opened up yet. If you're going to open it up and change the bearing you might as well put a better performance cam in such as the EV27, new lifters and steel breather gear, and save some time and cut the old pushrods out and put adjustable pushrods in IMHO. It's an easy one day job if you have everything that you need and the proper tools.

Fxr has 28 k for miles, the wine can be heard at idle and going down the road it gets louder with engine speed in gear and in Nuteral , at first I thought it was coming from primary then from cam chest, with engine scope on lifter block I can hear it but can't tell if it is from sound travel threw block , same thing when I put scope on primary almost sounds like in between when I open up primary I see this and did wonder about stator
