Default Road King Saddlebag Idea/Question/Search

I run a 99 Road King Classic (Blue/Silver in the back). I love it and it was my father's bike that he gifted to me as a wedding gift his new bike is there in the front. I love everything about it and am looking to make it my absolute dream bike. Currently has the Classic Leather Saddlebags. My question is this: What are the options for some more customized saddle bags? I like the leather look, but would love a hard bag for the locking function.

I've looked into leather covers for hard bags with little luck but they must exist. Anyone have input, photos, suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

3 obvious options

identify your current paint code and see if mother HD offered hard bags in your color. Most of them were available. buy a set and install

Second, buy a set of hard bags of any color, have them covered in leather or a leather like material. I have seen this done and it did not look too bad.

3rd, call someone like azzkiker customs, and ask them how they did bags like this?

you can get a lock kit for the leather bags too.

vikingbags.com has the harley style hard bags covered in leather. Not my cup of tea.

I got a set of used bags from someone here and had them painted to match. One of the best mods. Road King classics with hard bags look darn sexy in my humble opinion.
I kept the leather bags in case I want to switch back and forth.

For Harley Touring.
Leather, lockable and have a stretch look to them.
Not cheap at all, but the base bags are pretty nice.

By the way, congrats on both bike and the wedding. Take care of both of them and they will both take good care of you!

Thanks everyone.

I have flip-flopped between wanting Hard Bags color matched and loving my leather bags. Two very different looks, both are great. We'll see as time goes on.

Also like the idea of hard bags covered, that could be a winner if I find someone to do it.

Toyed with the idea of matte-black bags with the leather lid covers but I worry it would look more like a cheap attempt at the look and not the actual look I want.

To me, they look more like Heritage bags.
Not bad, just not Road King Classic bags.
Not being disrespectful, Heritage guys!

you might like the look, but if you ever have to live out of those bags on the road you will wish for the hard bags,, those factory leather ones are tiny
