In the market for a Road King classic part 2
#81
I most likely won't go back to them unless they reduce the bike by 1-2k and give me $2500 for my bike. I don't expect that to happen.
I have a line on another bike. 2012 RKC, 15755 miles. All accessories I want already installed. Current tires are good for another few thousand miles.
Here are the numbers:
Selling price: $13,995--this includes 2 new tires.
Trade in: $2,000
Tax/title/fees: $1074.25
3 year ESP: $1639
5yr Tire Wheel: $399
Total: $15107.25
After down payment and financing, monthly payment is $180.56
Or I can take the bike with it's current tires and no tire warranty
Selling price: $13,395
Trade in: $2,000
Tax/title/fees: $1074.25
3 year ESP: $1639
Total: $14108.25
After down payment and financing, monthly payment is $162.65
Without financing the tires, I save $214.92 over 12 months assuming I get tires next year. If I stretch to 2 years, I save $429.84. Tires only will be between $346-366 depending on brand, tubes another $50 and then the install cost. The math says finance the tires, it will be cheaper in the end. I'd have to stretch the tires for 3 years in order to save.
So should I be worried about a 2012 with 15755 miles on it? Comes out to around 4000 a year. I still think $13995 for a 2012 with 15755 on is a little high but I have the two options above and I don't think they will lower the price any lower. I'd feel better at $13495 but not sure how to get there. I'd just like to feel like I helped influence the final sale number because at this moment the dealer has presented all the pricing options. Just want to make sure I get the best deal I could.
Am I off on my logic here?
This is where I sit.

That is not a lot of miles for a '12 RKC.
Maybe you could get the bike for $13K with current tires and replace them one at a time later as they wear down and you save up enough to cover that cost out of pocket at the time. If true, great maintenance is a plus.
That is the last year of the U.S. domestic RC Classics, that relates to value added.
I recommend further discussion with the Finance Manager, tell Him "We may be very, very close - is there any room left to wiggle and get me on this bike"?
$13K is not a big cut for Him to get you on the bike. He might find a way, like looking into those fees, the ESP, or something.
Good job, you are doing great!

I agree, I think $12995 is closer to what this bike should be listed at. I have been quoted a 3 year ESP for $1500 from two other dealers so maybe they can work with me there.
If I can get the bike at $12,995
Trade in: $2,000
Tax/title/fees: $1074.25
3 year ESP: $1639
Total: $13708.25
After down payment and financing, monthly payment is $155.51
That is a $25.05 savings in financing from the offer with new tires. In 12 months, I'd save $300.60. That's 50% of the cost for new tires, tubes and install costs. If I stretch it to 2 years, the savings will cover all of the cost of new tires tubes and install costs. When I purchased tires this past summer, I got a $50 rebate back so it is possible when I need tires I can find a great deal.
I will need to go see the tires to be sure. The dealer said there are a few thousand miles left on the tire which is is possible to last me a season or two. I did like this dealer as he pointed me to a local credit union to get the 2.75 rate so I feel more comfortable with this shop over this past weekends debacle.

Man, you are getting on a roll.
The dealer near here is wanting to move used bikes so bad, they are including a gift card for future parts, accessories, or clothing with each used bike sale. Might be an offer like that going on there, look on their website, might get to play that too.
All this work to sweeten the deal pulls the grin a little further up the cheeks when you get to ride it home!

When you get your hard bags, you will find they hold a third less.
