Default 2012 road king won't start in gear.

When in gear it won't start. The starter engages and then a noise like it is trying to start and then the starter stop. Is this Norman, and if not, what does it indicate?

What does it do neutral when you try to start it? Hard to describe a sound on the net but it could possibly be a starter clutch.

OP; Three recommendations:

1. If you have a service manual for your bike, do the clutch adjustment procedure.
2. If not, get one & do the clutch adjustment procedure.
3. If you don't feel comfortable working on the bike - sell it (JK / )...take it into service for clutch adjustment.

Charge the battery and see how it works.

Mother was asking if I had seen Norman lately. We're still searching.

Thanks for the humor, it made my day.

Weak battery
loose/poor wiring connections at battery/grounds/starter
weak/failing starter
mis adjusted clutch
or some combination of the above.

When running, clutch pulled all the way in and in gear does the bike want to pull forward?
