sorry, it's an 89 fxstc in good condition with 52,000. Assuming the previous owner removed the jumper. Lord knows what else he did in there. Gonna try to find what it's supposed to look like know and what I have now.

This is from the HD wiring diagram for a 1989-90 FXST/C/S & 1990 FLSTF

Very helpful diagram. Unless I'm mistaken, it seems like that 'jumper' wire to disconnect is the yellow lead from 'B' to 'C' on the switch?

Thanks for the diagram! so I pulled the panel and looked. the yellow jumper was definitely moved. he had B to yellow x 2 as the jumper went there also. Everything else looked normal. I removed it and cleaned. Putting it back on tomorrow. Also getting a multimeter tomorrow. So I know how to check the battery, what's the best way to check the charging system? check juice coming from ignition switch on the tan posts?

Thanks to everyones help and advice. My checks are the following:
resting: 12.83
on: 12.73 (jumper removed)
hdlt: 12.18
idle: 13.08 (with Headlight on)
2500rpm: 14.06 (with headlight on)
blinkers: 13.04-06 (with headlight on)

So I'm hoping my cleaning of the ignition switch and redid the ground did the trick. Turning the turn signal didn't seem to effect the idle while taking the readings.

Not a bike, but this was the only forum I could find something about it. Its a 2005 honda metropolition scooter, and figured they're pretty similar makes minus engine displacement but same parts. The problem I'm having is it the high beam/horn/or blinker will kill the engine after I turn them on. The electric start will only work after I charge the battery overnight and for like 5 miles after full charges lights and blinkers will work until they seem to die out and kill my engine. after this happens it will only kick start and will run very rough and wont be able to go full throttle. Just wondering if the OP ever figured out the problem as his is basically the same as mine.
