The Journeys of Darla ....

Ok, so here I am in Steamboat, and my phone says it is 17.5 hours of driving time. The plan is to get up early, pack up, suit up (I am already fueled up) and get going. I am going to see if I can do this in two days. If not, I will be home In three. So hence, not a lot of pictures if I do it in 2. We will see.

OK, ok. I was shooting for two days.... But there was this road see, that beckoned to me with a siren song of "you ain't been here". So the plan quickly desolved. I ran 40 out of Steamboat to 13 and headed North to I 80. Then turned North on 191.
At Eden I stopped for a sandwich and there it was, highway 28. I turned left, and the plan went to Hell in a Handbasket. I worked my way over to 30 and backtracked my route on the way South. Excellent road in both directions. I got as far as Pocatello and bunked down at the Motel 6. And, I took some Picts .....

I didn't know it, but this was what was beckoning me onto Highway 28. That my folks, is the actual track of the pioneers who traveled West in there wagon trains. This was called the Oregon trail, California Trail, the Mormon trail, and was used by the Pony Express. The very first transcontinental Telegraph was also built beside this road.
A view of the area.
These are not real graves, just representation of what they would have looked like.
Another view.
