Another great day. Clear and sunny, started cool, got hot, finished cool. 11 hours from motel door to Motel door. I got fuel, then went to MacDonalds for a couple of egg sandwiches and a coffee. I ate quickly as I wanted to put some miles on early. Onto the Interstate and set the cruise at 60 mph so I could enjoy the morning air with my coffee. It was pretty cool and all I has was my shirt and vest on. I considered putting my jacket on a few times but just flipped the heated grips on and that made the difference.

First stop was the Meteorite crater. It is pretty cool. $16 for me to get in. I would have liked to spend a few hours there to do it justice, but it was a quick 1/2 hour tour and gone.

Then it was onto Winslow. That was just a 15 minute diversion. Needed that picture.

I then headed for Petrified forest. Again, I could have spent 1/2 a day there, but it was a quick tour of the museum and gone.

I then headed for 191. That is a beautiful road. It was Windy, but oh so beautiful. Up to 160 and 4 Corners. I didn't go in, there was a fee and I didn't feel like paying for something I can see on a map ... Next time. And then onto Cortez. Picture time ....

Some of the crater. It is deceiving. You could fit most of Downtown San Fransisco in it.

Ya ya. Standing you know where ....

Petrified logs. So, so cool

In the park somewhere.

Those telephone poles where right beside US Route 66. The old car is a monument to the road.

Big Arizonna. Just enjoy without my babbling.

Well, I got the map out, and it looks like Durango, then up to Montrose. And then I will see from there as to what time it is.

Head east from Montrose and see the Black Canyon of The Gunnison. It's not the Grand Canyon but it's a great ride.

Crap, it is cloudy and cool and a few sprinkles of rain. Oh well, jacket day. I shouldn't complain the weather has been remarkable.

Here is a bit of an odd story. Way, way back in the day, my ski bum days (40 years ago) I had a 1971 VW Beatle and a 1955 Chevy 1/2 ton with a camper on it. I remember seeing in a Magazine a picture of a kit you could get which would convert a Beatle into a mini-Motorhome. I really thought about it, but bought a Chevy Van which I camperized and used. It just seemed like less work. Well, here I was yesterday heading to the Petrified Forest and drove through Holbrook.... And here is what I saw ....

This is the actual kit mini-Motorhome. There was a fellow working in the shop and he told me there where 140 or so of these sold. This is the only one I have seen.

The place was owned by a fellow who did a lot of custom VW stuff. In the garage he had a Beatle with a big block Chevy V8 in it.
