Default Riding in Virginia

Thinking about taking a trip to Virginia and West Virginia this summer. Wondering if there are any recommendations as to what area/roads to hit.

Blueridge Parkway, Skyline Drive, (stay at the Meadows hotel) go to Luray Caverns, head over to Harpers Ferry, and if you have time, go up to Gettysburg, Pa. and visit the Battlefield.

Haven't tried 'Back of the Dragon' myself and plan on riding with my buddy this summer.

In either VA or WV, if you are within 50 miles of the mountains, there are good roads everywhere, including the county roads. The areas around Monterey, VA and Marlinton, WV draw lots of riders. The WV coal fields are in the southern part of the state; it is an interesting area.

More roads here than most people have time for, I live in Ohio and try to get over and ride this area when I can. Great roads, stay safe.

US 211 in Virginia and WV is a nice road. Virtually any road around Snowshoe, WV is outstanding. I would recommend staying west of I-81 for the very best riding.

A buddy and I did the whole circuit last fall. Gettysburg, Virgina Beach, Blue Ridge Parkway, Tail of the Dragon and Cherohala Skyway. It was all beautiful. The Blue Ridge Parkway was my favorite and I doubt that I'll drive another 469 mile stretch of road any prettier.

You almost can't go wrong. Great roads in both Virginia (my home state) and West Virginia (my favorite riding state).

You can get a free Virginia By-Ways map here that shows scenic roads in Virginia. http://www.virginiadot.org/programs/prog-byways.asp I've done most of them. All worth riding.

Here is a website that lets you search for good motorcycle roads in WV. http://www.motorcycleroads.us/states/wv.html

A few of my favorite WV roads include (1) Route 50 from Winchester, VA all the way to Grafton, WV; (2) Route 33 from Harrisonburg, VA to Seneca Rocks, WV; and (3) in southern WV, Route 52 from Bluefield to Williamson. The last is a beautiful road. You can see from this map that there are no straight sections--true on many roads in WV, the reason it is my favorite riding state.

When you have a better idea of where you are going to be, many of us can give you more specific suggestions.
