what i would try is direct connect the ignition - so you eliminate every thing behind it - just jump the soleniod and see if it fires off - if so then trace it back to switches or what ever

Trace what back? It starts fine. Just doesn't run correctly.

I think what he is talking about is if you have an intermittent short or loose connection it could cause an interruption in power resulting in a back fire when power comes back.

I suppose that's a possibility. Hell, anything is possible at this point. I have a Harley tech coming over to look at it and help tear apart the carburetor tomorrow afternoon.
Had hw Harley tech from Dennis Kirk come tear apart the carburetor and re-jet it... he, along with some of you, is leaning toward needing a new ignition, especially since mine is annold crane cam which is junk... so, buying a new Daytona Twin Tec ignition tomorrow, we'll see what happens.
In the middle if installing the new Daytona Twin Tec ignition (replacing a Crane Cams HI-4 which, accordig to harley techs, is junk). Found out I need new spark plug wires. Any recommendation on brand for wires?
Did get your bike running .? I got same problem with mine. I did what everybody here said. But still backfiring from the front cylinder . Thanks,
Hey, sorry I've been meaning to update this. Yes, I did fix it. I replaced the junk Crane Cams Hi-4 with a Daytona Twin Tec. Replaced plugs and wires. Timed it. And it's running great.
Thanks ,, I guess . I'll buy a new twin tech ignition and see what happen
Just make sure you rule everything else out. Intake leak, carb needing to be rejetted, etc. Because a new ignition is a lot of money to spend on a guess.
