types of oil i have tryed in the shop
sporty trans oil as its for chains and clutches - yep did the job at twice the cost od 50W
ATF both dextron 3 and ford type F - both used in front wheel drive automatics chains and clutches - dexron is smoother in its engagment // type F is grabs quicker < good for hot rods But leaks easy and it is gone in an hour if your not looking
Multi weight like jap bike engine oil any of them for this they are all the same - and they also do the job BUT always a BUT leaks easyer than the others
Gear oil 85 / 140 or 75 / 90 nope to thick and ends up being an issue after a while
primary oil we tryed a few types they all did the job made for gears and chains
i have seen bikes with 2 quarts in them and not leak i have seen a cup of oil leak everyplace that has a bolt --
Today we leave it as was intended and change the oil regularly just my take - johnjzjz

As far as oil, it only takes about 1/2 quart or so. Just have somebody set on the bike in an upright position, pour the oil in through the derby cover until it just touches the bottom of the clutch shell and you're set. You don't need to have the chain in the oil, it only needs to be enough oil so it contacts the bottom of the clutch shell...as the clutch shell spins, it'll sling the oil around and lube the chain no problem, guaranteed.
