Shovelhead Exhaust Pipes 69 Back & 70 up

The 1969 and earlier engines have a flat side cam cover - that the generator bolts on to and in doing so the exhaust pipe goes under the motor known as a SQUISH PIPE - it was made that way and you cant swap one for the other
1970 on the pipe goes around the engine not under it -- hope that helps = johnjzjz

To elaborate a little more is that the early pipe goes forward to clear the generator than back under the bike to the S or squish pipe. The S pipe comes out between the frame and the bottom of the cam cover and is attached to a Y pipe. The rear header pipe comes down around the transmission and kick starter to the Y then to the muffler. The Late pipe front comes down to the rear of the brake pedal on an FLH and then to the Y and rear header pipe. It is usually made in one piece. With a little work on the Squish pipe you may be able to adapt it to a 70 and up. The Panhead S pipe was a separate unit. The shovel version was welded to the Y pipe.
