New shovel owner: 77 FXE motor?
I had just bought this bike last week the family that had owned it knew nothing about (or so the stealership said)it because the man that owned it has passed away. I'm aware that stock it was a 74", but I to me it is definitely beefed up there is a super G carb on it and 2" pipes(not a fan) and at least from what I can see s&s cylinders on it. They are marked with 80 R does anybody know how I can figure out anything about it without cracking it open?

the timing hole on the left side of the motor remove it and turn the motor around till you see numbers and letters if its an S&S stroker it will have them so it can be ID - the super G is a big carb ( usually never works well on a shovel ) and if it runs good idle and throttle up throught he gears its a big inch motor for sure --

88" is a sweet motor for a shovel , stock reliability , long lived and pulls like a freight train loaded . That G carb is still a bit on the big side for that motor you'll get lousy mileage out of it .

like said the "G" is WAYYYYY to big -- an "E" will work much better all around -- the 2" pipes are a big mistake -- get a good set of pipes like twisted has or a 2 into 1 system --
see if you can find out what camshaft it has - and 88" has lots of choices --
me?? I would use a sifton 468S also known as a #104 or a "109" both have low lift but are made for larger engines
an Andrews "6" a 514 -- a 495 - even a "B" the best is a lienweber L3S even a J-2 the J-2 is kinda wild though --
I just got an old real sifton .440 that for 86" to 93" engines
they make 8:1 pistons for that set up -- I would try to find out what CR you have ..
