I have a pre 69 frame that has a hard tail welded on. I am looking to build it but not to sure about the engine. I know it should have a title but I'm not into it for the price most are asking. Is there an alternative such as a newer engine? I know the Vin is on the frame but there has to be an easier and less expensive way. Thanks

Not sure about Ky but in Kali 69 and earlier are registered by motor number. Starting in 70 it was required that motor and frame numbers match; otherwise it is considered a 'Special Construction' and is basically just a mutt. States vary on whether motor or frame go with sale.

66-69 genny shovels are pricey but doable. No 'cheap' alternative and still keep it registered as a Harley

I think brand new engines are as expensive or more than rebuilt ones

Thanks for the input. I was tracking the early titles were from engines but never thought about making it a mutt. I agree, should keep it a Harley.
