Default shovelhead carb ID challenge

Hello all,

I am finding it difficult to identify my carburetor. Itlooks like a Bendix, but has a half turn lever on top where a screw should be.Anyone want to give it a guess? It rests on a 1969 Shovelhead.
I am finding that fuel is consumed very fast and probably needs to be gone over.
Thanks.

Zienith/Bendix with an adjustable main. Knock the cap off and you'll have more range to adjust it.

i believe its a harley davidson cast into the front side of the carb and its a 1978 to 1980 only and the low speed mix cap part number is 27883 - 78

for the bike its on it needs strong jetting as it is a lean carb they had 2 different low speed numbers they were 70 mm and a low speed jet 68 mm stock / and high speed jet was a 1,60 and they also used a 1.65 start out with a new 70 low and get a 1.65 if it does not already have one

it kind of look like a bendix but its not -- jz

Looks like an aftermarket Zenith , Harley didn't have the little plastic adjuster cap . Parts & jets are interchangeable with stock ones so no worries

I think( altho I've been wrong before) that was what was called a Kheihin(sp) carb. came out after the bendix. so 73 or later?I always thought it was a cheap version of a bendix. some or all had h-d cast in them. was during the AMF destruction years!

I thought early Keihins (at least beafore 79) had the plastic cap, while later ones had an aluminum cap so that it couldn't be messed with because of EPA regulations

The old Bendix / Zenith carbs had an **** jet adjustment , the Keihins where alway a real small screw set down inand they were choked lean from the factory and they had the tower your talking about . You had to modify it so you could adjust the damn things to run right , the aluminium **** your talking about was actually a tall plugged orifice with the jet about 3/16" down in , we'd either drill a small hole & pop the plug of just cut off the top with a hacksaw blade to get at the jet

OP do a search for Keihin carb mods or repair there a very detailed well written article in here with pictures that takes through a simple rebuild that perks that carb up nicely .

FIRST you would have to read the harley part number for the plastic cap i used and it is a ( 1978 to 1980 only harley AMF carb ) NOT a bendix zenith like some think - jz
