Default Opinions on What to do

I have a 1981 FXEF Harley bike (late 81 not AMF). It's chromed to death with S&S carb, forward controls and after market seat. Everything else is stock. I'm trying to decide if I should make a 180 or a 200 wide tire kit out of it and put a wide glide front end on it, or leave it alone. Any thoughts on a good wide tire kit for it? Since it's not all original thoughts on if this will screw up it's drivability or value

I may be wrong, so I stand corrected if so, but I don't think a 180 or 200 will fit in a stock 4sp frame. The widest tire I could get in a stock shovel frame and swingarm was a 16" M&H slick, 4" patch, 5" at the bulge @ 8 PSI, and then the chain would rub the letters off.

Thanks for the responce. Big Boar has a swing arm kit for a shovel FX. But its for a 200 tire. May be a waste of time but they look neat.

It won't without some work . I've squeezed a 160 on them before but that's using a cheap chain , O-ring style will rub the tire with anything bigger or you have to offset the wheel and then you get play fender & brake clearance games .

There's several wide tire after market frames that work well but it's more work and a lot of parts need to be changed out .
