Can I get a stock exhaust header for a kickstart FLH?
I have a stock 1976 HD FLH. It did not have a kick starter from the factory. I sent the trans out for rebuild and it came back with a kick starter, yeah. But the kicker won't work with my stock, non-kicker, exhaust. Can I get a stock-appearing rear cylinder header and heat shield that will work with a kick starter? Since there were kickstart ElectraGlides made, is there an orginal FLH kickstart exhaust on someone's shelf? I've tried searching forums and vendor websites but everything is custom and I'd like to keep this bike looking as stock as possible. Any help is appreciated.

Is your kicker hitting the exhaust on the way down? If so, there is a kicker arm available that has a offset further away from the bike so as to clear custom exhaust pipes, and is a tad bit longer. If I remember correctly, it was not much more expensive than the stocker. Twisted or one of the other shop owners should be able to clue you in on a maker and stock number.

This pic is misleading. The trans is set too far backward. It needs to move forward, and the shaft would be into the exhaust. I think I'd really like to find a Y pipe and heat shield that will work around this kicker. Am I wrong in thinking that some FLHs came with a kicker? Everything I can find on the net is custom. I very much appreciate the advice.

70's exhaust wont work with a kickstarter, you need a late 60's pipe, or you can get aftermarket exhaust that will fit from V-Twin or a catalog. it sucks loosing the kickstarter, but the easiest way is to just get the rite notched cover.all you do is take the cover off, and put the new one on.. i bought a new one for $20 a year ago.
