Lightbulb The mistery on true duals

Well I hope someone can help me here. I got a 76 flh and I got Samson pipes with baffles and they sound good. Here's the thing I finally got some extra money in for the bike and I want a true dual exhaust with 30" fishtails. But and it's a huge BUT everybody that I have talked too and even online are negative on doing that on a shovel head because of lack of performance. Now my motorcycle is stock original paint some pretty good chrome and I use it on Sunday's on good weather. I don't see what the whole mystery is on duals on shovel heads. I seen pics of old guys back in the day racing this motors with duals.I would like if someone could guide me on what pipes I could get and explain to me the whole mystery of why people are so against duals. Thank you any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming by True duals you mean a separate pipe for each cylinder? (i.e. drags)

So called true duals is a marketing ploy.
The HD system of savaging produce more low end Torque .
The HD duals act some what like a two to one system.
All True duals are pipes that are not connected at any point.
Cheaper to make and sold for a higher price. They are often harder to tune correctly.
And it sounds cool to say I have true duals.

Shovels didn't have the right head flow configuration for the long duals and they are very flat doggy performers with them , doesn't matter what cam or carb configuration you run so heads up . You like slow and just profiling they are your thing , you want a decent performing bike go staggered duals .

Well thanks for the help and all of your inputs. I guess most people are right on not getting expensive true duals on a bike that is going to perform badly. I just might look into maybe sticking with my old pipes. Or just maybe looking into Pipes with no baffles and just add more chrome parts. Thank you again and please if anybody has any experience with any good sounding pipes let me know .

Shovels like a 1 3/4" shorter pipe , the do not flow well with the big diameter pipes or long *** fishtails everybody seems to love today , you loose goobs of low end with both those configurations . Best performing at a civil price is the good old Cycle Shack 1 3/4" tapered staggered duals and I personally take a long pionted bar and open up the holes in the baffles out the ends and after a few thousand miles they blow out some and sound decent when you dig into them a bit .

If you all about noise there's straight's but run the little baffle in them for a bit of back pressure , you'll get the loud and keep the performance .

I need to learn to type faster....What T.B. said. I run 1 3/4 Cycle Shack Drags with baffles, (Krome Works) on my 76 FLH. Sound great and perform well.

My 74-74 has true duals, it performs great and sounds like a pissed off ol lady.
Real obnoxious.

Paughco sells a nice set of True Duals for most older bikes. They are pricey but nice..
