Default 81 sturgis starter removal

Hello im doing a mainshaft seal in a friends bike for him I cannot seem to figure out how that dam starter comes out? ?I've got everything else off to get the inner primary outa the way but is there a 3rd blot that holds that starter to the inner primary/ do gota gut the srter in the bike to find this mystery bolt thanks rat

Those had a 1/4" bolt that went all the way through from the inner primary to hold the stater on the inside ear you'll see the head just under the arm that pulls the bendix in and there is the rear support under the battery box . As long as you unbolt the starter you can leave it in place and pull the inner primary off otherwise it's usually drop the oil tank & battery box to get one completely out without a huge wrestling match .

Thanks for the response ill look into that 2dqy I seen that hole there I hope like hell that that bolt ain't snaped off that's about all I can figure

If it is snapped it should pull right out , about 3" long if I remember right .

The starter housing is also doweled to the inner primary with spring-pins...even with all the bolts out they can hold on pretty tight if corroded.

Well I got it out had to take both studs out of the end of the starter motor.. and it came out.. then to get at the to 1/4 bolts holding the nose cone to the back of the inner primary ....my old shovel just had 2 bolts holding it in and the cone/starter were all one peice unit.... thanks
