I have had many issuses with this bike.I have replace the carb with a s ans s super b. I have replaced the intake gaskets. I have set the timing to the book, without running. Now when I start it, it runs good for about 10 to 30 seconds and then the idel starts to climb. I can't get it to stop climbing so I shut it off. Any help please

Original S&S B carbs are a single cable wire set up.There is a screw holding the wire that runs through the cable to the accelerator. Try loosening the screw and start the motor. See if the idle still climbs. Shouldn't because nothing is pulling on the throttle cable (because the screw is not tight).
Thinking maybe you just have the cable wire too tight.
Looked at S&S website and it shows a dual cable set up. There is an adjustment procedure That I will look for in the 78-84 service manual and post it. But I am thinking cable

I understand this problem was happening before you changed the carb??
If that's the case, check the advance unit to make sure it's all good. Take it completely out of the bike and make sure the springs and posts are in good shape and intact.
But if it started after you installed the carb, then in addition to what Panz talked about, I would make sure the throttle shaft is not loose in the carb body. The S&S B's were notorious for this, causing multiple symptoms.
Another possibility is the cam timing may be off.
Keep us posted on your progress!!

The old " B " would idle high when the throttle shaft & bushings wore out . reach while idling and see if you wiggle the end of the shaft with the spring on it , idle will move around if you can and that's your problem .
Second area to look at is your timing advance unit under the points if you have one , worn out or broken springs will make the bike act like a carb problem .
