I got .18 each lobe using the advanced method(always seemed to work best for me) points don't to break contact until timing plate is rotated as far as it will go clockwise!? Bike ruins fine but I know it ain't right.what gives?

Just a little clarification for any newbies reading this. The .18 they are talking about is actually .018" point gap (unless I missed something somewhere :-).

That can be caused by all the aftermarket we get anymore for the old beasts and I've found on a number of occasions the timing being off on nonstock cams like Andrews , had the gear as much as 30 degrees off time out of the box . You can file out the slots on the points plate to get more adjustment as temp fix or find another lobe for the advance unit and try again those can vary widely believe me or swap another set of points , different brand name those aren't all the same either anymore .With the old points setup and the cheap *** parts anymore sometimes they just wanna be a pain playing mix and match till you find the right collection that works .

I just tossed it and went Dyna S and used the high end stainless steel advance units , lube them once a year and those are set and forget till next year .
