Default S&S super E trouble

Need some help...
Just had the S&S Super E carb off my '76 FLH, cleaned it up real good, changed the jets, accelerator pump, etc... now i can get the thing to start and it runs real good except - when i twist the wick there is a mist of gas that spits out of the front of the carb, is that just a matter of fine tuning??? second issue, which is a big one - when the fuel line is connected to both the petcock and the carb, gas does not flow from the tank to the carb. if i disconnect the fuel line from the carb, gas will flow freely out of the fuel line, so its not a plugged line or gunk stopping the fuel flow, could it be that the float is set wrong???

take a look at the tube where the fuel squirts out when you snap the throttle open, there's a diagonal slot in the end of the tube. Make sure that slot is pointing toward the intake manifold.
You'll have to take off the float bowl to be able to turn the tube around the right way. While you're at it, you can recheck your float adjustment etc..

good luck!

What is the correct float level setting, and what is the best way of going about it?
Thank you...

From S&S, Remove bowl and raise float until needle is in closed position and spring in top of needle is compressed. Top of float opposite the needle and seat assembly should be 1/8 to 3/16" below bowl gasket surface. Float must not contact bowl gasket.
Hope that helps....I was a little confused on your post ...she runs fine but not getting gas to carb?

if i take the fuel line off of the carb end, allow it to fill up with gas, then put it back on the carb, let the bowl fill up, then it will start. once the gas in the bowl is used up gas stops flowing out of the petcock... then i have to repeat the whole process... so, it runs but not for long

are you using an in-line filter?? It could be dirty and restricting flow...

Question:

Is the float bowl vented properly?

You might want to check that next...

One more suggestion (if it still does not fill properly)

Auxiliary Float Bowl Vent Plug (Remove the float bowl, it's the Allen screw in the bottom, just behind the Main Jet)

Remove the aux. bowl vent plug and discard it! That was what finally worked for me.

#14 in the diagram below:

Sure hope this helps!
