Default aftermarket inner primary

Hey guy's....I am working on a friends 81 FXE and it needs the inner primary replaced due to cracks on the front two mounting ears. The factory ones are $400 but I found an aftermarket one on Ebay for $225. Has anyone used these before? Are the any good? I would like to hear your opinions good or bad!! The guy is strapped for cash but don't want to waste $$ on junk..... Thanks!!!

Avoid anything with the name LifeLine they are total junk and be sure to ask every time if your buying on ebay . LifeLine dumped a load of shovel stuff on the market some years ago and lot of it is still trading hands . Guys got stung and are trying to pass that crap on . Pictures will help you as the name is cast embossed inside everything they did .

The better quality ones are all smooth heavy casting inside with big wide gasket surfaces , the more common aftermarket chrome ones you see with all the webbing around the bearing hole are cheaper made , thinner materail and don't hold up as well and I've had fit up issues with some of those . They tend to be off just hair and this will lead to cracks down the road . You can still find an OEM late it looks the same with the webbing but much better quality .

Hope this helps.

One more thing make sure it's for a late model shovel there are difference that can be an issue .

I bought this chrome one off Ebay...fit perfect, starter works great , no leaks..time will tell. Most cracks are due to improper installation.

Well he ended up buying the same IP as the one pictured above and it was a fairly painless install aside from realigning of the trans and few small alterations to the outer primary's rear bolt holes to get it to bolt up properly...Thanks!
