Default 76 Shovel w/dry primary

Friend of mine picked up a 76 flh shovel. It has a dry primary. For mere curiosity we were trying to figure out if HD offered the shovel with a dry primary as stock? Wondering if anyone knew.

Sorry, with limited knowledge of this I didn't think to add that.

It's a belt driven system.

I caught reference to this "Sturgis Model" once before. Is there any significance to this and anyway to tell if it's a Sturgis Model?

What method was being used to lubricate the chain(?), or is it a belt drive system??
Yes Harley did have dry primarys on their Sturgis model.

76 orig had a chain primary (oil bath ) the rear was a chain This must be an aftermarket belt drive or someone installed a sturgis HD system Is the rear drive also a belt ?

The rear is chain driven.

I wondered about this as the primary is still using a "stock" primary cover but the derby cover and the other smaller cover (forget what it's called) have been louvered.

It's a belt conversion somebody did , the Sturgis models were later years . You hear a lot of noise coming out of the primary when you pull the clutch in ? If so it's normal for belts and the louvers are for air flow inside the primary to help cool them . You will have to do more maintenance on the bike depending on how much you ride . You have to pull the cover and blow out all the crap that builds up in there and check the belt adjustment REAL regular . Depending on what brand system was put in you'll need to pull the clutch hub to lube the bearings at least once year more if you ride a lot .

Been running belts forever on shovels all types so if you need info shoot me a PM I'll fill you in , I just need a picture for reference .

Twizted. Just to clarify. The bike is apart at the moment so if/when I do hit you up with a pic for our general knowledge it won't be for a couple months. So don't be surprised if you get something out of the blue. Thanks again.
