Default Axle's/ 2006 wheels on a 1981 FXEF

Has anyone switched a wheel with 1" axles over to a 3/4" axle?

The brake rotors have a bigger ID on the 1in axle set up as far as the bearings I think the OD is the same for either a 1 in sealed bearing and the 3/4 in bearing and if the OD for this is the same as your exiting timkin bearing with pressed in bearing race it just might work ?

Rotors are only bigger on the 07& up bikes anything under it the same 11 1/2" , 07 &up are 1/8" bigger . I've done a few of these conversions and it's a bit different on each one depending on what model forks it's going on . On the sealed bearing the OD's the same for both , what you have to watch is the rotor & sprocket spacing . Late model wheels a bit wider on some models .

Been there done that...your first obstacle is the inner spacer...you will need to have one made...I made one from a piece of 3/4 ID pipe and turned it down on a lathe till it fit inside the 1" inner spacer. Obstacle number two is the 3/4" sealed bearings themselves...they are wider than the 1" bearings. They fit on the drive side of the wheel but stuck out on the brake side...but that is not really a problem because you are going to have to use custom made spacers no matter what. I use a stack of 3/4 washers to get the wheel properly spaced then measure the washers and cut a spacer the same size...it sounds harder than it is.

One has to be an engineer to do custom work It can be done as Tom has but sometimes a lot of bikers go over there heads to make things work ! A good learning experience ! I prefer the old ! timkin set up and better yet the old star hubs ! Good Lord I must be old
