Default 1973 FX Superglide Intake/Carb

I inherited my brothers 1973 FX. It has an old Linkert DC-6 carb. When I start it up it spits back out the carb and has alot of hestitaion until it warms up. Idles just fine and has lots of power. I am going to redo the intake o-rings and gaskets hoping this will solve that. I know it could be intake leakage. I would like to put a different carb on. Any others suggests would be great.

That's a rare carb I had one on a 57 XL years ago sold the carb last year for $300 You might consider buying an S&S E carb or a CV carb and find one of those antique guys to buy your DC

I've got a box full of different DC carbs.I finally got tired of hauling em to the swap meets.Glad to hear they may finally be worth something. But you're getting good advice, updating to almost any later carb will improve performance...and DC parts will not be easily had when you need them the most. There not easy to find when you don't need them...

I have been looking at different carbs. The S&S Super E is cool. My question is that one some other types of carbs I see there is a fuel inlet and on some there is what also appears to be another tube on the bottom of the float bowl. What and where would that tube go?? This bike was converted to the Linkert so I am not sure if a line was eliminated. I did find a web site that sells Linkert carb parts: http://linkertcarbs.com/ Bought new gaskets and intake seals and still spits back and hesitates until warmed up. I sprayed around the carb when cold and did not notice any changes in rpm?? Idles ok when cold. I'll be looking at carbs more. I need the extra tube question answered. Thanks. Jim

That float bowl tube is probably an overflow most carbs have this Don't try to re-build the DC parts are not available M series yes The DC's are too rare to make aftermarket parts for I'd get a an S&S E or B The E's have accelerator pumps the B's don't [I] still love the B's
