Default mid control shift linkage advice?

Hey folks, new guy here. there is some great advice here.
Does anyone have a photo/diagram/illustration of what the shift linkage looks like on an fxe with mid controls. i am changing a 1980 fxe from forward controls to mid controls, and it now has an open belt drive, so i need to do some fab work and am not sure where to start.
Thanks in advance for your help,
s

I don't have a pic for ya, but I'm pretty sure if memory serves me, your going to have to run a closed belt primary (or swap back to chain) to put the mid controls back on. I think, and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, that the left peg mounts off the primary cover. I'm sure you could fab up some kind of mount to leave the open belt set-up on but wouldn't recommend it.
mtc, for what it'ts worth.

Hey Shane, thanks for the reply. I have a rotary top tranny, and all the diagrams and actual bikes i have found with similar setups are the rachet tops. my biggest problem is figuring out how the linkage between the shifter rod and the tranny is configured. I think i have the foot peg worked out.

I'm originally from your neck of the woods (NH)

I did my shift linkage that way a long time ago, the joints were very worn, so I just unhooked from the joints and bolted it on direct. I loved it, short shift stroke, didn't seem any stiffer than stock. When I did my rebuild I put it all back stock with brand new joints. I don't even like it anymore, too much play, this winter I will be dropping it off the joints and going back to direct linkage.
