Wiring my turn signals

Wiring my turn signals
I bought bullet lights to put on a 79' shovelhead and I've been fighting the wiring for a few nights now. I can find the hot wire, but it dosn't stay hot. I also can't find anywhere it's getting grounded. Any tips here?
I can get the turn signal to light up, but I can't get it to blink. I've got a black wire, a blue wire, and a purple wire with a black stripe down the middle. Any ideas???
On another note I did have success wiring in my new starter switch, so now I've got two wired on the bike in case one goes out.

RE: Wiring my turn signals
When you hit the left button, does the left signal lights light up? Same with the right? If yes then you may just need a different flasher. When replacing stock signal lights with lights that draw less current, the flasher may not trip. You can purchase a light duty flasher at any auto parts store that will work.
If the lights do light as asked in the beginning of my post, you can test to see if it is the flasher by locating it and disconnecting one of the wires while the turn signal is on. If the lights then shut off, that should be the problem.
