Default 1980 mfxs swing arm

I have tore my bike down to go through it and now I am putting it back together. But I am installing my swing arm and the book says to attach a spring scale to the end of the swing arm and tighten the pivot bolt to pre-load bearings to 1-2 lbs. I never took the bearings out so I have no idea what this means any body no that can tell me please.

Grab the swing arm (shocks removed ) If you feel very little movement in the arm don't worry about it If you feel alot of movement get back to us

I think what it means. Hook up a scale (I use a fish scale)

to the swing arm at the axel. Push down on the swing arm

and tighten or loosen it, so it takes 2 pounds of pressure

before the swing arm moves moves.
