Last 1984>First 1985 Shovelheads

Cycle World Had a big write up about this Motorcycle in Sept 1984 issue; it said the last Electra Glide rolled across the Factory Floor on June 4, 1984; there were only 550 1984 Shovelheads made, one for each dealer in the US and Canada. Harley Davidson of Milwaulkee Said and confirmed that I had the last one made and where it was sent to. Confirmed only by giving them my Warranty Card Number. you can ask me about it or send message or put Friend request to Steve Simon (Boogie) on facebook. According to Harley Davidson, Monday, June 4th, 1984 was the Day the Last Electra Glide, (1984FLHS Shovel), was Made since 1948 (model years thru 1984), rolling across the factory floor in York, PA. I have seen the factory build sheets from that era, and know the guy who know more about H-D vins than any man alive. One thing he would tell you when dealing with that time period is that nothing is absolute. There were some very strange contraptions sent out in ones and twos. Several Shovel powered fxr bikes in 85, some with the 36-84 clutch some with diaphragm, a 1985 FXWG, shovel powered but in the frame modded to clear the evo,. Then there were evo fxr bikes in 84 with both diaphragm and old style clutches.
I wouldn't call anyone a liar who says they have the "first" or "last" anything from that era, but I would be highly skeptical. When I used to quiz my buddy on things like "when was the last shovel produced"? His answer was always "well, I can tell you when the last one I know of was made". He would never speak in absolutes regarding this era, anyone who does, knows less about it than he does.

Hey Stevie Simon, you need to fact check your statemt because in 1948 there were no FLH models made or produced by Harley Davidson. I believe 1955 was the first year for the FLH models. So whoever gave you the informations is off by several years.
Also as stated, there were FLH (Shovels) models that were designated as police bikes that were sold in 1985, so the asserion is a bit misstated.
Your may be the last FLHS model sold but deifintely not the last FLH model sold.
And not to dispute what you are saying, are your sure that your refernce to production numbers do not reflect the FLHX series that came in white/gold or black/gold accents?
You may very well have the "last" FLHS Shovel model but not the "last" FLH Shovel produced by MoCo...big difference.

True statement , I worked for a dealer for close to thirty years , we sold several of the 85 FLH police bikes that were built for but never made it to Mexico City. A close friend of mine still has his and I see a few of the others from time to time.

A friend of mine had an ol boy he met come by my home in La. in 1999 and the man had bought a 1985 Police FLH with a Shovelhead Engine, 4 Speed Transmission and the Evo style Clutch set up with a Belt Drive to the rear wheel, all matching numbers. This bike came from a State Auction, I think Harley was just using up the leftover Parts to fill some old contracts.

Hi all. The 84 flh x special edition in my garage came black/gold stripe. Flh frame. Chain primary .belt final drive. 4spd. There were quite a lot of combinations during the change over from shovel to evo. And a flhs or(sport) came put in 1977. 535 made. 15 of which are Confederate Edition model. This was an unfaired bike. Came with hard bags and windshield only. No tourpack or fairing. And yes I have one in my garage .
