1980 rotary top trans Mainshaft play?
On a 1980 rotary top trans (with no key for the seal)
How much play in and out should there be on the mainshaft
where the drive chain sprocket mounts? I have .017 play.
The reason there is play. The steel spacer behind the sprocket
seal, is hitting the inside or bottom of the main drive gear.
This is stopping the spacer from sealing against the trans case
by probably .017.
I was going to put a washer in to take up the gap. But I don't
want to over tighten this, if there is supposed to be some
play in the shaft.
I wonder if the nut on the other end of the mainshaft, in
the kickstart should be tightened to pull the mainshaft further
into the transmission?
