Default Shovelhead Rocker Arm Plug Leak

Hey all! Hope this hasn't been covered yet. Yes, I did search!!

My buddies '80 FXS has been seeping at the rocker arm plugs since we put it back on the road. Last weekend, we changed from the factory style oil lines to the style that feeds both boxes at once. Now that the front head gets enough oil, it's time to change out the seals on rocker shaft caps. I pulled the back plug on the rear box last night to see what I was getting into. Just a drip of oil came out. When we pulled the front plug from the front box, quite a bit of oil drooled out.

Question is should the rocker boxes be holding oil after a week of no riding, or should we be digging for a blocked return in the front jug?

Thanks guys!

TC

Yama bond 4 will seal the threads in the rocker shaft to the end cap we also put it on the o ring and they do make a special over size o ring

lean the bike to the right over night so most of the oil is drained off - clean the rocker shafts threads real good then apply the Yama bond 4 and re assemble wipe of excess and let sit 24 hours then ride it again

Little trick to stop the boxes from over oiling, stock the case fitting for the feed line was a restricted port size. The popular after market chrome kits didn't have that. Feed fitting hole on the case should be .090", slows the over oiling & flood problem nicely. You can solder and redrill them to size with a little care.
