Default Carb jet question

Hi all. I've been researching this as best as I can but I'm still not getting it. I've got a 76 74" all stock shovel with points. Sea level I suppose as I'm 20mins from NC outer banks although sometimes with the rain it seems like below. I'm running super e with 70 main and .295 intermediate. Bike fires up perfectly and idles great. No poping and no air leaks at manifold. Seems to just run flat around 60mph. No tach unfortunately so I don't know what rpm. Runs fast out of the gate but falls off pretty quick. Not sure how these engines behave. What's the top speed on these 74inchers? Fresh top end, points, and coil. Basically a fresh bike build. Only thing that wasn't touched was primary because other owner put a new one in. Also tuned the carb exactly per S&S manual.
Is this carb related?

Say 2-3rd gear when you know it’s time to shift is it falling on its face then? Or it it only after you’ve shifted it goes flat? Does it do it 2 to 3rd or only 3 to 4rth?

if you really choke the air it could do as you describe.

‘’Any bike can sorta kinda run ok with a 29.5 jet. But I’m willing to bet you really need a 28 and probably a 74 or 76 up top.

Does the engine sound like rpm is raising and you stay the same speed around 60?

yea i think its after shifting. Runs really good off the line. Then just peters out. Not sure about revs. I'll test that out tomorrow. Raining it's butt off today.

exhaust is the classic drag pipes (2" diameter at least) with lollipops.

Love the points cover!

hard to say what ya got going on. But it should be nice and strong we’ll to 80-100mph. 2” is WAY 2 big. 1 3/4 would make a lot more power.
