I service my brakes just like changing oil. Remove, clean, and put a light coating of brake caliper grease on all moving parts. If I haven't done them in a while, I'll go over the handlebars the first time I use them when first cleaned.

I just re-bled the brakes.
Took her for a spin and brakes REALLY suck!!
No air in the lines and fluid flowing nicely so no blockage there at least.
Again......they are Precision Machine calipers from the early 90s.
If they are seized in any way how don I fix that?
Remove calipers and let them soak in brake cleaner?
Or remove calipers, press to close them and clean that way?
Pistons can just be pushed back in.
I'm at a loss right now!
BTW.......do the calipers simply wear out after a time?
Spoiler

Maybe they have just lived out their lifespan.
I think each one is about $365 now.
I dont know WTF that "spoiler" thing is???

The pads and rotors have been cleaned.
There's plenty of meat on the pads.......they're barely worn.
Maybe I'll do it all again and really clean the Pistons.
Then see what happens!

Calipers are probably fine, if they are the ones with the two sets of tiny pads they sucked ***** new, pad materiel was terrible. Had to take mine to an old school import place and have them matched up some odd ball Suzuki I think it was and a better brand pads, not cheap little bastards either. Secondly, get some f**king pictures up so we have an idea what you actually have and the guessing games stop. Depending on the mount, could be cheaper for a direct swap to a more common brand beefier caliper.

What brake fluid was in the system before you bled and added DOT 5? DOT 5 is more viscous than DOT 3 & 4. If you had DOT 3 or 4 previously, DOT 5 is not compatible and should not be mixed.

Paul
Just bleeding.
And always DOT 5.

So here are pics if my setup.
As you can see, the front pads are not grapping as much rotor as they could.
The present rotor is 10".
Would an 11 be the correct next move up....or 11.5"?
Also, the top caliper bolt was scoring the rotor when first installed...thats is no longer a problem.
Rear setup seems fine.
But again.......both brakes just plain SUCK!
I've almost gotta stand on the rear pedal!!
My next move is to remove calipers and check/clean pistons.
BTW.........should I decide to change the pads what material is the best?
I wasnt aware that pads and rotor material had a bearing on eaxh other.
I've just thought any given pads were compatible with any given rotor.

I don't know offhand what bore master cylinders you are using, but with aftermarket calipers, you may have to go smaller. Too big will give you the same symptoms. But first, I'd get the bigger rotor, 11.5 I think is the next harley size. It'd be 3/4" bigger radius, is there room in the caliper for that?
