After spending 600$ on a rebuild while it was out, my four speed has a whine in third gear like a siren only fainter. I would like to know how long before it self distructs.

 

If it sounds like a old dump truck in low, and it shifts smooth, don't worry about it. (really) if it bothers you try some bel-ray transmission oil. third gear has a very narrow bushing that lets the gear torq off to one side causingsome noise. Some are worst than others but most havesome noise in third.

Rebuild or just the really bad parts replaced,mismatched gears will cause this.

 

I thought that a compatent shop could tell by looking if a gear or bushing was bad. they had three months to rebuild this tranny.I knew that I should have done it myself. If you would like to know the name of this shop I will be glad to tell everyone. They told me that sometimes it just happens, (the poorest excuse on the books).
