I'm thinking belt primary has a lot in common with the Dark Side. Those who have never tried it think it's all bad, those that have love it.
It would be nice if those with no personal knowledge would keep their opinions to them selves.

I have personal knowledge about bearings, they need lubrication.

technically, the hub bearing only comes into play & does any work when you pull the clutch lever in, and you put it in gear or when changing gear when moving,...
if you ride the clutch in gear at lights etc it will get more work than if you only use the clutch when you need to,
when the clutch isn't engaged, the hub & basket turn as one,... so like anything on the planet, the less you use it the longer it will last.
I pack mine with Castrol LM grease & run a Ram Jet retainer, that as well as helping with basket wobble, it seems to help keep the grease where it's meant to be compaired to the stock factory cage & loose roller set up that was on my 79 FLH,
I have also fitted the 'Big Fix' longer bearings, some like them, some dont, all i can say is they work well on mine, but due to the nature of the beast they do not allow you to use as much grease as the factory bearing when you assemble them, so I check & re-grease them more often, some hate getting dirty & doing regular maintainance but for me it's all fun & part of the gig.
I also fitted a 10 finger hub & a diaphragm clutch conversion which gives me a one finger smooth clutch, thats easier to assemble than the 10 spring factory set up & gives easier adjustment. when you concider the stock clutch set up is from the 30's and is realy a foot clutch bodged to work with a hand clutch lever instead of a foot pedal, in my book its the way to bring 4 speed clutches into the 20th century.wether or not if you use a belt or a chain drive primary.

And you change your oil every 20 years whether it needs it or not.

I’ve been using open belt primary for 30 years with no problems, much better than chain for many reasons. Primary oil doesn’t get near the clutch hub bearing in a closed chain driven primary, they are greased.
