stephtell, what is the frame date code? I’d expect it to be stamped on the left side of the top engine mount. For example the top mount below has date code J8 indicating the frame was made in October 1978 and it was used for a 1979 model.
Does the back of your frame have blocks with two holes or does it have blocks with only one hole? Thanks.
Eric

The single-hole blocks first appeared about mid-75 and they were also used for 76 models.
Does your frame have rounded mounts to accept the studs for the coil bracket or does it have rectangular blocks? The rounded style would be consistent with a 79 model while rectangular blocks would be consistent with 76. The change to the rounded style seems to have occurred either late in the 77 calendar year or very early in the 78 calendar year.
Did you find stars at each end of your frame VIN yet?
Also look under your left case for a crankcase production number (CPN) consisting of nine characters, the first three of which may be 179. It may be near the outer edge and somewhat toward the front. If the cases were machined together as a matching pair at the factory then the R-H case should have the same CPN but it will probably be inside the gear compartment and not visible on an assembled engine. It may be viewed however after removal of the front pushrods and tappet guide.
