Default CV Carb Adaptor

I had a few CV carbs around and I purchased an adapter to mate a CV carb to a Shovel intake manifold.

I found that there are two basic types of carb adapter..one is all metal that is supposedly a press fit to the CV carb.
The second one is cheaper and is rubber with a hose clamp.

I found that the rubber adapter did not fit the CV carb very well....very sloppy fit for sure.

I puzzled over it a bit, and grabbed a twin cam carb manifold I had, and removed the rubber seal ring that attaches the CV carb to the TC intake manifold.

Of course the TC seal ring fit the CV carb perfectly, but the TC manifold side, was too big to slide over the new Shovelhead carb adapter

Since theTC seal ring has a larger diameter TC manifold side, and a smaller diameterCV carb side, I simply sliced the bigger TC manifold side off the rubber....now I had a seal ring that fit over the cv carb outlet, as originally designed........ and now the CV/shovel carb adapter, slid perfectly over this cutoff rubber seal, eliminating the mismatch perfectly.

I hope this is not too confusing!!

I do Follow...and...as long as there is No Leaks... Who cares... run it...
I use Quality (made by a Canuk friend) press onto the CV carb adaptors... I love the CV on my shovels that are Not High Performance... Good ole Street bike...

Better to use the rubber one with a shovel. The all metal adapter relies on the air cleaner being solidly braced and supported which few owners took the time to get right, air leakes were very common.

True... But... I detest the Rubber one...If you want to know if the Carb is Supported properly... Put it on a RubberGlide... it Will Tell The Tale...

The cheaper rubber adapter, with the sliced off Twin cam rubber seal on the carb.....fits so well, that you can hold it upside down,..fits that tightly even with the band clamp not tightened up yet...............

Yet the Flange should actually be Impossible to remove from the Carb on the Solid/Press-on ones... If done Properly..

I am using a s&s style, adj carb support, from the center case bolt, to the lower manifold bolt, if I use this CV setup.
