Just picked this up. 78 Shovelhead. Wanted to say hello to the forum. Hope to learn a lot from you all. Love the sound of carbureted bikes.

Congrats. Is the engine a 74 or 80? I can't count the fins on the jugs in the pics.

Perhaps this busy dealer failed to take down this listing. They do post a lot of stuff on ebay.

She's a 74. And I'm neither a troll nor a dealer. Just a regular guy that likes old school bikes. So I decided to make the purchase.
Dealer had a youtube clip in which bike started right up and looks to be running strong. However, after bike was delivered yesterday and starting her up, she won't stay on for longer than a few seconds. Black smoke is coming out of both exhausts and she sounds like she's starving for fuel before shutting off. She stays on if I throttle and give it gas. But shuts off without giving it gas. Choke is also pulled out to max.
Damn! Not a good start to shovelhead ownership.

 

Black smoke means rich condition or fouled plugs. What do the plugs look like. What carb do you have?
