Default 1982 shovel motor

Hi I got a 1982 shovel I've torn down but haven't split cases
I wanna freshen it up n get it running to put into a project bike

i measured top of cylinder bore, 3.527" so it's been honed out 0.030"
Local ahop who deals in Pans and shovels strongly recommends buying new cylinders instead of going 0.040"
that would also require me to buy new pistons , what's your take?

Not doing anything special in terms of performperformance Ands EV3 cam

Maybe valve job n clean heads up and new ignition

Any advice will help.

We have done the 040 80 inch many years ago — and its never given what you would expect - runs hot and does not last long

ev3 is an evo cam wont work in a shovel - the A2 andrews is what you talking about - its the ev3 of the shovel

So going new cylinders would be my best bet
When I pulled the nosecone off and removed cams it said andrews EV 3 on them

This is how it works out - stock cam lobe lift give or take a bit is .287 X 1.43 < is the rocker arm ratio becomes a corrected valve lift of 410.41 and that is around the stock lift shovelhead engine

ev 3 i believe from memory is 490 lift - that becomes a lobe lift of .287 X 1.65 < evo rocker ratio = 490.05

now using a ev3 cam that the rollers are way larger then the shovel rollers i did not know how that works but I will take it for what you said

.287 X 1.43 = 410 so the lobe lift is the same but the roller size changes something - but the other thing i have issues with is the size - diameter of the evo lifter is way bigger then a shovel —

picture up the cam and the numbers letters you are reading so i can see what you have and the cam as well as the gear — thanks

Never seen that before an evo cam in a shovel - one thing is certain they the heads do not have the stock guides

but maybe its the picture — but it looks to have metal dust on all the pinion parts and the nose was really being rubbed looking at its damage

Picture up your lifters from the side to see the roller and lifter blocks - something is changed - its a hyd set up or solid

just by looking at the valve springs your in the 425 lift max on a cam - you would need off set top retainers for a bigger cam then that

travel is short in shovels < bottom of the top retainer to the top of the seal installed is travel with the retainer and keys installed and pulled up against the seat
