mine did that with an S&S super E.....until I swapped out the NGK plugs for Champions.

I just got a Keihin 27470-81 Carb yesterday . . . it looks like I just need to swap the out the gummed up float bowl screws should have some decent replacements in my spares, what made me buy it is the fact that the mixture screw is still sealed !! & I only paid 62.00 $ + shipping !! Wow ! can't beat that !!

looks only slightly used . . . & the Mixture Screw is still sealed !! only thing better would be NOS !

exactly what I have ben looking for to use with a Point Ignition . . .

this carb is ideal tfor what I want to use it for it has the 2 cable push/ pull throttle plate . . . & no VOES Vacuum fitting, '83 & later ?

I think after an Ultrasonic Bath, she'll be ready to Go !!

My '79 80" had the Keihin when i got it. Ran smooth and reliable after i rebuilt it. Ended up swapping to a S&S super E. Crisper/faster throttle response but my MPG went down a couple.

I removed my Mikuni after the 135 degree cables scratched the top of my '81FXB tank. Could not find anyone to sell 90 degree cables for throttle so went back stock. Dug up the old original carb, ham can air cleaner, throttle and cables. Rebuilt the Keihin and added the adjustable main jet only to find it would not fit inside the back plate for the ham can. Eventually found an '81 carb on ebay that looked like it was in a fire. Paid a $few for whole carb shipped to my door in 3 days. Installed replacement bowl with no added hole and purchased a K&N air cleaner for the old ham can. Got it all back together like it was many years ago and 1 of the 1st rides out a smart A$$ came over to ask me if my air cleaner was big enough??? Anyway, I like It, its back to original, doesnt have the throttle response I had with the Mikuni but I like the originality.

I still run a Keihin. The engine is a stock (inside) 1984 eighty incher. It had had various ignitions through the years and is currently and recently points again. I added the adjustable mixture screw to mine and rejetted. I did years ago try the adjustable mainjet but abandoned that idea early and just tinkered until getting the jetting correct. That was years ago and the old Keihin is still running great.

ETA: I should have specified my Keihin is a butterfly type. I ran a Mikuni 38mm back in the 1970's on my 1967 XLCH; you can't beat the snappy throttle response of a Mikuni (or other constant velocity) carb.
Also I know someone is going to say that there is no "O" ring on the mixture screw on the later carbs, but and that is my memory from long, long ago, the manufacturer 's instructions for the installation / use stated that the threads were purposely oversize to aid in sealing. They further stated not to keep fooling with it and wear the threads down. I don't remember if I put thread sealant in it or not. I don't even remember if it did in fact have an O"O ring with the screw / kit. That was many years ago and the bike has run and started great ever since. If it ain't broke I don't fix it!

They installed an alloy cap at the top that sealed the works - the effect morons who decided they knew something just thiis once - broke out the side edge so using a dab of silicone wont work - then after the 30 pack blamed the import carb — yea that was it

Default Keihin carburetor upgrade

I have an '82 FLT with the original carburetor and it works fine. About 10 years ago I read an article and put in an Andrews Products high flow accelerator pump. Seems to work good and I get better mileage than on my '97 road king.

Took a couple pics of my Sturgis while I had her down south at the Gulf last week. I know she isnt perfect but she puts a smile on my face every time I ride her. Its getting to the point I ride the Sturgis when its just me and the Limited when the wife wants to go. Anyway, heres a pic after I removed the Mikuni and returned the stock carb, cables, throttle and Ham Can. Before I left I also installed a new set of Barnett Kevlar Clutches and a new BDL Primary belt as I pulled the old 1 in 2 trying to get the clutch basket off to grease the clutch hub bearing.
