I went out and took a look at the Keihin on my 1984 FXEF. There is a capped vacuum fitting on the carb. I owned this bike a long time (2d owner) but not from new. I don't remember it having a VOES. As stated earlier I re-jetted and added the adjustable mixture screw is all. It had the S&S air cleaner on it when I bought it and then I put drag pipes on it is why the jetting change. The bike has been a great running bike and gets better than 50 mpg whether it was the original electronic ignition, then points when that went south, then Ultima and then back to points when the Ultima went south a couple of months ago.

Only if you have a bike that is mostly original and you aim to keep it that way

With Points ignition you don't need a VOES & the OEM ignition module in your 1984 FXEF, just wondering what Part # is on your carb ?

this Carb has no vacuum fitting for the VOES & has the 2 throttle Push Pull Cable set up . . .H-D part # 27470-81

That is going to be a hard number to read. I will try. Also to clarify, I should have said that I didn't remember it "EVER" having a VOES installed, i.e. back when it had it's original HD electronic ignition. I know I didn't have one on it from the first time I switched to points years ago.

I may be wrong but thought that VOES were first offeredwith CV Keihin carbs. Mine is I believe is the last version of butterfly Keihin. I could be wrong as I have never owned an EVO nor worked on them much.

OK, I went out and looked and no stickers. I rebuilt that carb a time or two in it's lifetime and carb cleaner probably did them in. There are flats on the carb for the stickers but no sticker. It had them at one time. I want to say they were 1982 - 1984, definitely not 1981 Here is a recurring problem, mine is an un-cataloged model, i.e. mid year introduction. There initially wasn't an FXEF after I think 1981. Most parts books don't list parts for my bike; I just either go with FXE or FXWG parts and sometimes 1985 parts. The factory parts manual that I have doesn't list a carb for 1984; it says 1981 and later. My factory service manual shows a 1984 version of my carb with a small inlet page of a VOES for FXST models. So it would appear that VOES were available on butterfly carbs on 1984 FXST models.

A lot of times the Factory parts book and Service Manual do not specify Shovelhead or EVO engine. Many times they wrongly refer to late 1984 as EVO. Mine is a late 1984 Shovelhead. This goes for aftermarket suppliers as well. Here is a pic of my carb with vacuum tube capped with a rubber cap.

ETA: Mine has the bar and shield and Harley Davidson where your 1981 has AMF and Harley Davidson. So there definitely is a later carb than 1981. My factory parts book 99455-83B shows 1981 and later for carbs.
