1983 FXDG Twin Belt Wide Glide

Just came across this forum browsing for some specs on the 1983 Willie G FXDG. I just inherited one from my dad back in 2018 that he bought brand new in 1983. I would love to say it is original, but he modified a bunch of it. He blacked it out, stroked it, and did a bunch of other things I have yet to figure out. Just got it running a month or so ago after it had been sitting for 10+ years.

I got one too, I recommend you ride it a whole bunch and it will show you where it needs attention. With the buckhorns and the forward controls, these are very nice all day riding machines. One thing I noticed, next to the obvious air filter, originally there is no oil cooler (but this might be good to keep cause of the stroker mod)

True but but it has to be a labour of love at that price because the only way to get your money back is to light it on fire and call your insurance company.

Original paint is where it is at right now, no way to replace factory. $3k for the set seems a bit more appropriate but if they are in mint condition maybe not out of line. You see tank halves wrapped in plastic on the Bay all the time for $800 or so. Now you have both tanks, fenders and belts guard, it adds up fast. I reluctantly took a pass on a rideable but rough full set for my 1970 FLH at $3500 in Oley a couple of years back. I didn't need the tanks and the guy wouldn't split the set, I get it. But they were far from mint in the box. If I could go back, I might grab the set and put the tanks on the Bay hoping to get half the money back. I paid $100 for an original paint taillight for the same bike in Daytona, again not in mint condition.
The antique game is not for people with alligator arms or small wallets.
