Default Need Brakes solution for my 1981 FXWG

Hey Shovel - Heads,

I have a long standing issue, thought I might find some knowledgable help here. Many years ago I acquired 2 Performance Machine calipers and 10" vented rotors for my front forks. I hand grinded (stupidly) the brackets to get them to fit and they have but I have suffered years of squeeling that I nor any mechanic I have tried can get rid of. My theory is that the bracket no longer holds one of the calipers perfectly parallel to the rotors or it is something else.

My question is what recommendations might one have? I called PM and they don't sell the brackets anymore. I would buy new calipers if needed but I have always liked the way these look and they brake fine.

I also need a new rear caliper for the rear, so I am looking for any suggestions?

Thanks, G.

Been 20 years with this ride!

My front calipers that squeal like a B!

A crap but functional rear caliper put on by a dude in a junk yard in the dessert where I broke down.

Bring the bracket to a machine shop to true it up. Use small spacers or even washers to make up for the difference.

If that does not resolve it, are they rebuildable or is there an other brand of caliper that may fit for front and back?

I've seen rebuild kits for PM calipers. Spend some time searching online. You can find rebuild kit for your rear caliper as well.

I got in touch with PM, they do not have brackets but do have the pistons and rebuild kits!

Thanks!

Yea, looks like I will go that way as PM just confirmed they have rebuild kits for these out of production calipers.

Squeeling brake is probably incompatable rotor material. Forget what material I had before changing to rotor that worked with brake. Look it up. Changed the banana rear caliper for a GMA(also master cylinder)and never looked back. No noise, change the fluid every 10 years or so.(I know, I know, that's excessive)DOT 5
