This is hard gained wisdom, good luck. A lot of us here have been down the same road with John, best to follow his direction the first time, but sometimes it takes three times and wasted time and money.
I'd love to be around his shop when the typical knows it all gets an awakening.
I was confused because the Computer-Fire ignition that we just pulled out wasn't using a mechanical advance. The new DYNA ignition requires a mechanical advance. We found the old one, and it's exactly like you said.... SHITTY! So we will wait until you send me right mechanical advance.
Also, I was using a 3 ohm coil, but we just installed a new 5 ohm so hopefully that will help.
I think the pretty standard jetting on the Super E is .295 and 70.
You have gotten way off from that. Larger in the middle and very small on the main.
Like i mentioned with my plug wire issue, sounds like your chasing your tail with the jetting.
Follow John and clear up any issues with ignition before making any more jetting changes.
The dieseling would usually be a super hot spot in the chamber or ignition still firing.
I agree - hopefully after the new ignition and coil is installed, I can get closer to these jets... fingers crossed.
