Correct that breather is a great idea and in use it proves just that

back in the mid 80s we experimented with an iron head drag bike and diamond cut the breather valve all the way around put maybe its been a while 12 flats on the round

i idea was good for the sporty engine but big twin is another animal and does other things the sporty does not - we stayed with that idea till i stopped racing

John - by the way, both YOU and that bike look like monsters! Would have loved to see that thing go. Wow.

Modern day John, for reference I am a little more than 6' tall. Shovel I bought from him many years ago, or should I say my wife bought from him!?!??!?! Another story.

I couldn't talk him into riding over the Ginny Gang Plank for hotdogs at Nathan's, but me and another buddy went anyway.

Jesus - he's definitely a big guy! Looks like a fun time. And that shovelhead is pretty gorgeous by the way.

Got the S&S cases and crank. The cases come with certificate of origin... wasn't expecting that. Hopefully within the next couple weeks I'll be on the road with no leaks. I'll keep the original lower end all assembled and put it right in the S&S box for the next guy.

Oh yea, two other benefits of pulling out the motor: we can fix a cracked fin that I somehow didn't notice, and we can find a nut from the gas tank that fell somewhere on top of the motor and went into the 5th dimension. Spent 30 minutes with a magnet and air hose looking for it....

Not sure if I have the worst luck or not, but it seems as though these new cases don't want to go together. My mechanic has been on the phone with S&S and seems very frustrated because they're telling him this is normal.

The studs are 2 thousandths bigger than the holes. One hole is bigger than all the others and the stud falls right through... could this be normal?

If its anything like an earlier shovel, pan and every other engine harley made, there are fatter studs through specific holes that align the cases and smaller ones that just hold the two halves together.

.002 is not going to work as it could crack the stud hole on the bottom

S&S is shipping the cases back to us. They said there's nothing wrong with them, and they're not "off enough" to be considered bad. What a frustrating waste of time and money.... I guess we can machine the tight pins down (3 are too tight, and one falls right through).
