Need stock carb for '82 FXE
I'm doing a dead-stock OEM resto on a 1982 FXE (Superglide) & I'm having a heck of a time finding the correct carb for it. It has one of the original, super-long, one-cable S&S carbs on it now.
With all the S&S carbs being installed, there must be one of these original carbs laying around somewherethat needsa good home.
Any and all help locating this carb would be greatly and sincerely appreciated!
Many thanks in advance,
John

John,
Let me reccomend to your attention two excellent publications, to wit: Part No.99482-84 Service Manual, Part No. 99455-83C Parts Manual. Available at E-Bay for about half price of shops.
Heres the thing, only the servc. man. will give you clear definative pictures of that 82 carb., no other book I've ever seen, after market catalogsincluded, show these carbs to be any different; but they are! Take the servc. man. with you on the hunt. And just to show how weird it can get, the pic in the serve man. of the 84 carb has a little decal on [carb] that coinsides to the part man. # for an 83 carb. The 83 & 84 carbs are unmistakably different! Crazy man, crazy. I'm replacing my stock sponge-in-a-drainpipe for a 40mm Bendix setup with the ol' single wire dead throttle. Good luck, and look out for tiny broken plastic parts on those things!

Yes, I'll ride it a lot. I just like the stock look & performance and mine is almost there anyway. All of the stock Harleys I've owned were totally reliable. The ones with a bunch of aftermarket stuff always gave problems. Plus, a stone-stock bike is easier to sell and always brings the higest price - probably because they're so rare. At least that's been my experience.
