Default Date of Manufacture

I just purchased a 1981 FXB Sturgis and the Date of Manufacture has been scraped. I can see the year stamp (81) but the month date is scraped through. Is there a way to find the Date of manufacture if sticker is destroyed?

Call the Harley museum and ask them for the info. They may have something on it. I called about my 66, they had nothing. Called about my 62, they gave me its birth date and a few other important details.

And welcome! Cool bike.

72 Boat Tail, just checked in the Shovel section. You posted the question in the General section as well. Posted some pics and info there that will give you some specifics. Basically it is using the belly numbers. In 1975 MoCo started using the Julian date calendar on belly numbers. Goes by model, year, Julian date and sequential production number.

Welcome. So...........just gotta ask. Is that you and your bike in your sig pic? If so how about some pics and maybe some history behind the bike?

Original Seat

Light scuff on tail piece - probably polish out

Later model rear wheel

Yes-- That is me and My Bike.
Always wanted one of these! After 35 years of not finding one available or not having the cash to buy one, I finally pulled the trigger and bought this one January 2017. Bike was in a Harley dealers collection for a very long time and when dealership sold the new owner liquidated the collection. My bike is in excellent condition, runs and rides excellent and appears to be very correct. Rear wheel is newer style and the original seat upholstery has a couple cracks in it. I do have an NOS seat for it too. Bike is also unusual in that it is equipped with an electric starter which I have been told may have been special ordered from factory. Will post more photos soon.

That is a sweet looking bike for sure. Congratulations on owning and being the caretaker of a very nice piece of history.
