Default Riser installation question

I want to replace the rubber handlebar riser inserts on my ‘77 fxe triple clamp with solid mount adaptors. Q— do I need to drive the rubber inserts out of the triple clamp before installing the solid mount spacers or do they mount over the rubber inserts? If they need to come out, do they come out fairly easily or are they a pita to remove?

you'll have to show what you have. but it should be apparent to you when you start taking the risers apart. the rubbers come out easily, push out the metal sleeve first.

the plastic is a better deal in the vibes on your hands - you must have ape hangers

Thank you, guys. I'm not running apes but I want to install a bit taller risers so as to raise the low-rise buck horns which I have on the bike a tad higher.

the vibration will be intolerable.
you'll see.
even polyurethane bushings can be bad, depending on the bars.

I’m installing Flanders - type risers which have rubber inserts integrated into the offset portion of the riser to compensate for the solid mounting to the triple tree. Right now, the rubber on both the mount and riser makes for a fair amount of play in the handlebars.
