I just checked my oil level on the stand cold and it was at the top of the tank. My dip stick has a lower and upper fill line but the oil level was to the top of the stick.
I initially had my bike serviced by an independent and to repair certain things. I just checked the invoice and the independent recorded 5 qts of HD 20W50 (although he may not have used all 5 qts). I know the bike is supposed to take 4 qts....and I let him borrow my service manual.
I don't see puking and my bike is not smoking. Will it cause any harm to the engine and will it eventually release from the crank case breather hose (the one attached to my catch can off the oil pump)? As mentioned previously, I have never seen anything come out of that breather hose.

According to the manual, oil level is full when it is 1" from top of the one gal tank. My oil pressure light turns off after start up.
I read somewhere to check the oil return by removing the tank cap while bike is running and look at the oil return inside the tank to see if oil is coming back to tank.....an indication that the oil pump is functional.
Is this correct? Just trying to determine if my oil is circulating properly.
Sorry for my ignorance but where is the oil pump screen....I don't see a reference anywhere.

note thai I have witnessed the return side having a sheared key [in the pump] that still returns oil by friction o f shaft to gear...but, those same motors sump terribly while running... especially above idle.
Final Note; These dry sump systems are also Not Fussy about oil level... Hell...we run the DragBike on 1 to 1-1/2 Quarts total...and My shovel never complains as long as the Oil is Handily on the Stick!!!
The Oil light is on the feed side...so any oil is going to result in pressure..

I read about dry and wet sump systems and understand the differences and its benefits a little better. I am sure you know dry sumps systems too well being a racer.
Before I suck oil out of the tank....In your statement above, is it supposed to read ".....Only check oil level when heat soaked" or ".....Only never check oil level when heat soaked"?
Will check the return after I get the oil level corrected which I presume is the top line on the dipstick or 1" from the top of the tank..
Also, pm me your name and address and I will send you the toe shifter with pin and the shifter arm if you still want it. My foot rests fine with the heel-toe shifter and I will get used to shifting with the heal...I can always use the toe in the interim.
